Eoin Morgan hung up his boots as the England skipper announcing his retirement from International cricket on Tuesday. The-35 year-old has drawn curtains on a 16-year-long career after rumors of him retiring began float around after England’s tour of the Netherlands.
Morgan walks off as one of the most successful Three Lions captains in the limited overs format. He has also been the leading run scorer for England in One Day Internationals (ODI) amassing 6,957 runs in 225 matches, which includes 13 centuries.

Morgan captained the Three Lions 126 times, winning 76 matches and recording a win percentage of 65.25. One of his biggest achievements as captain is leading the Three Lions to their first ever ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup back in 2019, on home turf. He is also a highly successful leader in T20I cricket having won 42/72 matches while captaining his national side.

Eoin Morgan shared a statement announcing his retirement from international cricket. It read as, “After careful deliberation and consideration, I am here to announce my retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.”
He went on to add, “To call time on what has been without doubt the most enjoyable and rewarding chapter of my career hasn’t been an easy decision, but I believe now is the right time to do so, both for me, personally, and for both England white-ball sides I have led to this point.
Morgan also shared how he feels on having played 2 World Cups while speaking on the future of the Three Lions team in white ball formats. He said, “I have been lucky enough to play in two World Cup winning teams. But I believe the future for England’s white-ball teams is brighter than ever. We have more experience, more strength and more depth than ever before. I look forward to watching on with a huge level of excitement.”
The 35-year-old concluded his statement by expressing excitement to be playing in English domestic competition. Eoin Morgan said, “To what lies ahead for me, I will continue to enjoy playing at a domestic level while I can. I’m really looking forward to playing and captaining London Spirit in the second edition of The Hundred this year.”
