The English cricket team have been fined 40% of their match fees for maintaining a slow overrate against New Zealand. Ben Stokes’ side came up 2 overs short after taking the time allowances into consideration during the second match of the three-match Test series on Tuesday. Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction which was implemented after English skipper Stokes pleaded guilty to the charges leveled by match officials at the end of the 2nd Test.

As per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship, a side is penalized one point for each over short. As a result, the English Cricket Board (ECB) will also be docked 2 points from the World Test Championship (WTC) Table from the overall tally.

The second test match at Trent Bridge had England chase down a fourth innings target of 299 runs on the fifth day to register an emphatic win against New Zealand.
In other news, the Kiwis suffered a big blow as Kyle Jamieson was ruled out from the third test match. The NZ speedster will miss out on featuring in the final game against England having suffered a stress reaction to his lower left back.
Jamieson suffered an injury while bowling on the third day of the second Test at Trent Bridge. It restricted the NZ star to delivering just 16.3 overs during England’s first innings.
The Black Caps management was quick to confirm the news of Jamieson suffering from a stress reaction adding how the speedster will return home after their 5-wicket loss in the second Test. Coach Gary Stead has revealed that Jamieson will remain unavailable till September or October, depending upon his progress in the rehabilitation program which will begin after 4 – 6 weeks of rest.
New Zealand felt Jamieson’s absence on the field as Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes led England’s fight back on the final day at Trent Bridge.
The duo played aggressive knocks against NZ helping the hosts chase down a target of 299 in just 50 overs. Jamieson’s unavailability will hamper NZ’s hopes of avoiding the white wash in the last Test match at Headingley.
