ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023: Cummins Dedicates Ashes Win To His Late Mother: On the first Ashes Test final day, it was an intense battle between England and Australia. Pat Cummins played a brilliant inning, scoring an unbeaten 44, which led Australia to an unexpected victory. His incredible performance culminated in a four, taking his team over the line. It was a thrilling match that will be remembered for a long time.
At first, England seemed to be on the path to triumph as Australia were at 209/7 while attempting to chase a target of 281. Later on, when Australia reached 227/8, England appeared to have secured their victory. However, an incredible partnership between Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon ensued, resulting in an improbable win for Australia. Cummins remained unbeaten on 44 off 73, while Lyon scored 16 off 28, contributing significantly to the 55 runs off 72 balls they put up for the ninth wicket.

Australia needed to win in order to maintain their status as the top test team in the world, while for Cummins, the win held a personal significance. During the India tour in March, he had to withdraw from the squad due to his mother’s passing. This victory now provides him with an opportunity to honour her memory and the trust she had in him.
Cummins had to cancel his March tour of India after learning that his mother had died of breast cancer. He returned home to be with her. His family has a long history of supporting their son’s cricket career. After the match, the Australian captain expressed his gratitude to his father and brother for being there to watch and support him at Edgbaston.
Cummins also spoke about his first day of the Birmingham Test, when he and his father decided to attend Bruce Springsteen’s concert. However, they arrived late and missed the beginning of the musician’s performance at Villa Park.
He expressed his gratitude for having his Dad around for the entire week, saying that it was an extraordinary moment for him. He also shared that the past few months have been challenging, but having his brother and Dad with him has improved everything. He also mentioned that his Dad had visited before in 2019 with his Mom, which made having him around even more meaningful.
The upcoming second Test between Australia and England is scheduled to take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground starting on 28th July 28.
