Emiliano Martinez is a goalkeeper who plays for Premier League side Aston Villa. He also represents the Argentina national team and has played a key role in the team’s recent success in various international tournaments. Due to his performances for Aston Villa and Argentina and his antics, both on and off the pitch, the player has gained a lot of fame in recent times. This article talks about his net worth and his salary at Aston Villa.
Emiliano Martinez started his youth career in Argentine club Independiente. He joined the club in 2008 and spent around two years in the youth system. In July 2010, he moved to England to join the youth academy of Premier League club Arsenal. In 2012, the goalkeeper was sent on an emergency loan to English Football League Two (EFL 2) side Oxford United. This move materialised after injuries to Ryan Clarke and Wayne Brown and the termination of Connor Ripley’s loan. Emiliano Martinez made his debut in the final game of the season for Oxford United in League Two against Port Vale on 5th May 2012.
The Argentine returned to Arsenal following his emergency loan to Oxford United. In the same year, he was named on the Arsenal substitute bench in consecutive matches as a cover-up for the injured Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski. The Argentine goalkeeper made his Arsenal debut on 26th September 2012 against Coventry City in the third round of the League Cup. While Martinez did manage to play a couple of games and shine in the absence of keepers like Szczesny, Fabianski, and Ospina, he never really managed to break into the first team.
His stay at Arsenal was mostly littered with emergency loans, and he was sent out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Getafe, and Reading. It was in 2020, due to the injury to Bernd Leno, that Martinez finally got the chance to shine. Leno was taken off due to an injury against Brighton on 20th June 2020. Emiliano Martinez replaced him to make his first Premier League appearance since the 2016-17 season. Owing to his brilliance in goal and the long-term injury to Leno, he became the first keeper for Arsenal till the end of the season.

When it became clear that despite his performances, he was still not guaranteed game time and was not the first-choice keeper at Arsenal, Martinez decided to seek a permanent move away from the club. On 16th September 2020, he joined Aston Villa. He signed a four-year deal with Villa, who guaranteed him game time and offered him the role of the first-team keeper. His contracts with Aston Villa and Arsenal, alongside the other loans he was sent out on, have helped the player accumulate a net worth of approximately $5 Million. These contracts have been his primary source of income over the years.

Emiliano Martinez signed a four-year contract with Aston Villa on 16th September 2020. After his performances at the club, Villa decided to offer him a contract extension. On 21st January 2022, he extended with the club for three years, with his contract keeping him with Aston Villa until the summer of 2027. The Argentine star has signed a new contract in August 2024 which will now see him stay with Aston Villa till the summer of 2029. To get Martinez to agree to this deal, he was offered a contract worth roughly $150,000/per week. This surely went a long way in helping to boost his net worth even further.
Martinez’s move to Villa did wonders for his career, as in 2021, he made his international debut. His performances quickly helped him become Argentina’s main keeper, and his heroics in helping Argentia win the 2021 Copa America trophy were rewarded by him winning the 2021 Copa America’s Golden Glove award. The keeper ended up winning the 2021 and 2024 Copa America trophies alongside the 2022 FIFA World Cup with his country.
He also won the Yashin Trophy in 2023, the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper in 2022, the FIFA World Cup Golden Glove in 2022, and the Copa America Golden Glove in 2021 and 2024. His career with Argentina has been absolutely brilliant till now, and he will look to make this even better in the future. He will only keep getting better, which will lead to better contracts with higher salaries, which will push his net worth, which has already reached the $5 Million mark, even further in the coming years.
