Barcelona faced Atletico Madrid in a thrilling semi-final that showcased the intensity and drama characteristic of these knockout stages. The first leg ended in a gripping 4-4 draw. Barcelona, displaying resilience and attacking prowess, rallied after trailing by two goals scored by Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann in the first and sixth minutes. Goals by Pedri, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Robert Lewandowski saw the score become 4-2 in Barcelona’s favour.

It turned out to be  Atletico Madrid’s turn to make a comeback, and goals by Marcos Llorente and Alexander Sorloth in the 84th minute and the 90+3rd minute saw the game end level at 4-4. The return leg was equally intense, but Barcelona managed to secure a 1-0 victory, thanks to a solitary goal by Ferran Torres in the 27th minute that sent them through to the final with an aggregate score of 5-4. While Barcelona’s journey was full of ups and downs, and their game against Atletico Madrid was incredible, Real Madrid’s journey to the final was no less dramatic. They played against Real Sociedad in the Semi-final of the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid squared off against Real Sociedad, a team known for its tactical discipline and youthful energy. Madrid took a firm grip on the tie with a solid 1-0 victory in the first leg, thanks to a goal by Brazilin striker, Endrick, in the 19th minute. However, the second leg proved to be a rollercoaster of emotions. In a match that had fans on the edge of their seats, Real Sociedad pushed Madrid to the limit. Real Sociedad, needing to overturn the aggregate deficit, came out firing. Their early pressure paid off in the 16th minute when Ander Barrenetxea struck first, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Real Madrid responded very quickly, and Endrick ended up scoring an equaliser in the 30th minute. Real Sociedad managed to get the next goal in the 72nd minute thanks to an own goal by Real Madrid defender David Alaba, and this was followed by a goal in the 80th minute by Mikel Oyarzabal to give Sociedad a 3-1 lead and almost knock Madrid out. However, Madrid managed to get a goal back just two minutes later, thanks to Jude Bellingham. This was followed by a goal in the 86th minute by Aurelien Tchouameni to help Madrid level the score. It now looked like Sociedad would go out, but Oyarzabal scored in the 93rd minute to force extra time.

However, this was all in vain as a 115th-minute goal by Antonio Rudiger saw the game end in Real Madrid’s favour. After a thrilling back-and-forth encounter, the game ended in a 4-4 draw after extra time. This result allowed Real Madrid to advance on aggregate and reach the final of the Copa del Rey to set up an El Clasico showdown, something the entire world will be eagerly waiting to see. The 2025 Copa del Rey final promises to be a celebration of football, a testament to the spirit of competition, and a reminder of why El Clasico remains one of the most anticipated fixtures in the world of sports.
