Players who had played the Ranji Trophy had their price fixed at $50,000, and players who had not played the Ranji Trophy had their price fixed at $20,000. Kulkarni was signed by Mumbai Indians and became one of the few players to feature in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League.

Kulkarni played for Mumbai Indians till 2013. It was Rajasthan Royals who decided to sign him for the 2014 IPL season. He played on the team for two years before joining the Gujarat Lions in 2016. After another two-year stint at Gujarat Lions, Kulkarni returned to Rajasthan Royals in 2018. He stayed there till 2019 before returning home to his first IPL club. Dhawal Kulkarni age is 35, and it comes as no surprise that he has decided to retire from cricket. The Indian cricketer has announced that he will retire once the current Ranji Trophy season ends. His team, Mumbai, has made it to the final. Kulkarni revealed his decision to retire and that the club asked him to wait till the tournament ends before retiring. He said:

“MCA has requested that I stay (with the team) until the end of the tournament. As a senior player, they will require me in the knockouts as well. As and when I will be required to play, I will play besides mentoring the youngsters.”

“It is the biggest decision of my life and there was a little bit of confusion in my mind whether to retire but then I thought that I shouldn’t leave my team in the middle of the season and also MCA, selectors and the coach requested me to stay back and I accepted it. I felt somewhere that I have been part of MCA for 17 years and three games won’t make a big difference. At this crucial stage of the tournament, I thought I should stay with the team and at the end of the season I will announce my retirement.”
