Dewald Brevis Can Achieve What AB de Villiers Never Achieved: South African batter Dewald Brevis has risen to prominence after excelling in the U19 World Cup earlier this year. The youngster will play for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League in 2022. (CPL).

In nine games, the right-hander has scored 125 runs at an average of 20.83 and a strike rate of 154.32. Brevis showed what he could in the match against Trinbago Knight Riders, despite not being at his best in the first six innings he batted in. On Thursday, September 22, he batted at a strike rate of 500 and scored 30 runs off six balls. After starting with a dot ball, the right-hander finished with five massive sixes.

Brevis, who batted at No. 6 with only three overs remaining in the match, was serious from the start. Immediately following Brevis’ presence in the middle, St Kitts all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford opened up, hitting two fours and a six against Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell.

While Rutherford hit another six and four against all-rounder Akeal Hosein in the next over, Brevis didn’t score his first run until there were only nine deliveries left in the innings. A right-handed batter then hit a left-arm spinner for three consecutive sixes in three different parts of the field.

Back on strike for the final two balls of the innings, Brevis hit fellow South African Daryn Dupavillion for a six over extra cover on a hat-trick ball, only to follow it up with another six down the ground to complete the innings in style.

Brevis managed to score 30* (5) at a strike rate of 500, the second-best strike rate in a T20 innings (minimum 25 runs). The 19-year-old player powered St Kitts to 163/6 in 20 overs after scoring 69 runs in the last three overs, demonstrating to the world his big-hitting ability.
