There has been some speculation going around as to whether IPL 2023 is our thala’s ‘Dhoni’ final season or whether he will return for another year’s IPL season. According to various sources, Dhoni will be seen in the upcoming IPL season as well. The first time he stated this was during the toss for the CSK vs LSG match, when he informed commentator Danny Morrison that he hasn’t decided if IPL 2023 will be his final season or not.

The second update arrived after the match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, 14th May 2023. The franchise’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, provided an important update on the 41-year-old’s status in the forthcoming IPL seasons. “We believe MS Dhoni will play next season as well, so I hope fans will continue to support us like every time,” he added.

Earlier, another former CSK star, Suresh Raina, one of Dhoni’s closest friends, made a major announcement about his retirement plans. Raina asked Dhoni about his retirement during their last meeting in IPL 2023, to which he replied, “Main trophy jeetke ek saal aur khelunga (After winning the trophy, I will play one more year)”.
