Colombia has only ever won one Copa America trophy. This came in the first Copa America tournament of the 21st century. Colombia was extremely dominant in this tournament. They were put in Group A alongside Chile, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Los Cafeteros won against all three, finishing on top of the group. Colombia beat Peru and Honduras in the quarter-final and semi-final to reach the final stage of this tournament. Colombian defender Ivan Cordoba scored the solitary goal in the final, helping Colombia win their first and only Copa America trophy.

Bolivia’s only title came when they hosted the tournament all the way back in 1963. During this time, the Copa America was called the South American Championship. It also adopted a league table format where all teams played against each other. Seven teams participated in the 1963 South American Championship, namely Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia. Bolivia played against the six opposition, winning five games and drawing against Ecuador. They finished on top of the table, having not lost even one game, and lifted their first and only Copa America trophy.

Peru’s first Copa America came in 1939. Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Ecuador participated in this tournament. The games were played in a league format, with each team playing each other once. Peru won all four games and finished on top of the table to win their first-ever Copa America trophy.
Their second title came when the tournament’s name changed to Copa America, and the tournament moved to a group and knockout format. Peru topped group B, which consisted of Peru, Chile, and Bolivia and advanced to the knockout stages. The semi-final game between Peru and Brazil ended in a draw. There was a drawing of lots, and Peru advanced to the finals. They faced Colombia in the final. Peru lost the first game 1-0 and won the second game 2-0. This meant a final playoff between the two teams. Peru won this 1-0 and lifted their second Copa America trophy.

Chile have won both their Copa America trophies very recently. The two titles came in back-to-back editions of the Copa America. Their first trophy came in 2015 when they were the hosts. Chile was placed into Group A alongside Bolivia, Ecuador, and Mexico. Chile finished at the top of Group A with two wins and one draw. They then beat Uruguay and Peru in the quarters and semis, respectively, to advance to the final. They came up against Argentina in the final, a game that went into penalty shootouts after neither team managed to score a goal. Chile won 4-1 in the penalty shootout, winning their first-ever Copa America title.
They won their second title the very next year in the Copa America Centenario. A special edition to celebrate 100 years of the tournament was kept in 2016 and was called the Copa America Centenario. The final was a repeat of the 2015 Copa America final, with Chile and Argentina facing each other. Both teams failed to score again, forcing another penalty shootout. Argentina was all but ready to exact its revenge on Chile, but revenge does not always go as planned. Instead, Chile won 4-2 on penalties, beating Argentina once again to lift their 2nd Copa America trophy.

Uruguay are joint at the top with Argentina for the title of the most successful team in Copa America history. Both teams have won 15 titles since the tournament started in 1916. Uruguay won most of their titles in the earlier years. They won six of the first 10 Copa America tournaments. They have found very little success in recent years but will hope they can regain their past success and win more Copa America trophies.
Titles: 1921, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1941,1945, 1946, 1947, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1991, 1993, 2021, 2024
Argentina have won 16 trophies. After winning back-to-back Copa America titles, they now find themselves with one trophy more than Uruguay. Argentina has always been Uruguay’s biggest competitor. They won 14 of their 15 trophies before 1993. After that, it took them 28 years to win the Copa America trophy again. They did so in 2021 and again in 2024. They won the 2024 Copa America final against Colombia. Lautaro Martinez scored in the 112th minute to give Argentina the lead in extra time. This goal was enough to help Argentina win their 16th Copa AMerica title.
