Can Rohit Sharma Be India’s Most Successful T20 Captain?

Rohit Sharma has continued to boost an excellent record as the captain of the Indian cricket team in the shortest format of the game. Recently, the Men in Blue defeated the likes of Australia and South Africa in a thrilling three-match T20I series ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Heading into the major ICC event, Rohit Sharma managed to win in all of the group stage games apart from the South Africa clash, which included victories against the likes of Pakistan, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. It saw them surpass Pakistan’s record of winning the most T20I matches in a calendar year. The Men in Blue topped Group 2 in the Super 12 stages of the tournament to cement a spot in the semi-finals of the ICC event.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma had overtaken Virat Kohli to be India’s second most successful captain in the shortest formats. Following his exploits in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, the 35 year old is now just two wins away from matching the record of Men in Blues’ most successful skipper, MS Dhoni.

It is also worth noting that Rohit can go on to equal MS Dhoni’s record of most win as captain in Men’s T20I  if Indian wins the Semi-final & final in Australia. Rohit Sharma’s’ next assignment will see him lead India in the second semi final against England at the Adelaide Oval on 10th November.

The high intensity clash will see the Men on Blue rely on players like Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli to shine with the bat while Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar work their his magic with the ball and help the team captain lead India to victory at the T20 World Cup.
