Beth Mooney Regains No 1 Spot in The Latest ICC Rankings

Australia opener Beth Mooney regained her position on the top of the batters list in the latest ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings. She had earlier lost the position to fellow teammate and captain Meg Lanning two weeks ago. The 28-year-old had an outing to remember in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

She ended up being the top run-scorer of the tournament scoring 179 runs in 5 innings. Mooney scored a 41-ball 61 against India in the final while also registering scores of 70* against Pakistan and 36 against New Zealand during the tournament.

Such solid performances at the tournaments saw the 28-year-old surpass Lanning and reclaim her spot at the top in the most recent ICC rankings. She is now 18 points ahead of Lanning with 743 rating points to head the ICC rankings on Tuesday.

Mooney now finds herself at the top spot in ICC rankings for the third time in her career, having been at the top earlier in March 2020 to as well as October 2021. Her teammate Tahlia McGrath also continued her rise on the list and managed to break into the top 5 amongst the batters list on the latest ICC standings while also claiming the 12th place in the all-rounders list.

Indian players, who earned the silver medal in the Commonwealth Games also saw a major move up the order in the latest ICC T20I rankings.  Jemimah Rodrigues returned to form in Birmingham and ended up scoring 146 runs during the tournament. She gained a jump of seven spots to break into the top 10 amongst the batters. Fellow teammates Smriti Mandhana, and Shafali Verma also find a place in the top 10 sitting at the fourth position and the sixth position respectively.

England, who missed out on pocketing a medal, sees their bowlers dominate the ranking with all the top 3 spots being occupied by their players. Sophie Ecclestone tops the list with Katherine Brunt and Sarah Glenn finding the left-arm spinner on the second and the third spot.
