Teams have started announcing their squads for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2022 and the excitement of the Indian cricket team fans could end soon. As per reports, the much-awaited squad selection for the upcoming ICC event in Australia could be announced on Monday.
If speculations are to be believed, the announcement of the Men in Blue squad for the ICC event could be done later. Many believe that an announcement would happen today, but it could well be the squad for the upcoming Australia series.
Rumors of announcement on the Indian squad at the T20 World Cup started coming in after InsideSport had quoted a BCCI official last week. The unnamed source had stated, “Yes, both the squads can be named next week. Anyway, ICC Deadline to name the squads is not too far and selectors are likely to select both the squads next week.”
India is likely to name an 18-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 with 2-3 cricketers named amongst the reserves for the marquee event. The ICC event is all set to take place in Australia on 16th October with the Super 12 stage kicking off on 22nd October So far England, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Netherlands have announced their squads for the tournament.
All eyes would be on the BCCI announcement of the Indian squad with Rohit Sharma’s men amongst the favorites to walk away with the title Australia. India is expected to keep the main core of the team intact which includes the skipper alongside the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and the vice-captain KL Rahul.
Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who recently featured in the Asia Cup 2022 had a surgery and could miss out on playing at the World Cup in Australia. Questions also remain over the availability of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel who missed the continental tournament due to respective injuries. However the speedsters are said to have regained fitness and will make a comeback to the national squad.
Alongside Bumrah and Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mohammad Shami are likely to join the list of pacers selected in the national side. Young seamer Arshdeep Singh has been a constant feature in the Indian XI in the shortest format of the game and may also find a spot on the place to Australia after a top performance in Asia Cup.
The Men in Blue are likely to pick up two wicket keepers for the event with Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik most likely to fill up the two spots. Moving onto the spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi featured in the Asia Cup and are in the mix to remain in the squad. The two leg-spinners could be effective on the big grounds in Australia.
