BCCI Announces ODI Squad For West Indies Tour; Dhawan To Lead

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 16-member squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies. Shikhar Dhawan has been named as the captain for the Men in Blue with Ravindra Jadeja set to be Dhawan’s deputy as per BCCI’s announcement on Wednesday.

India’s star players in Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Virat Kohli have been rested for the tour. The trio was also left out for the five T20I matches during South Africa’s recent tour to the subcontinent. Rishabh Pant, who led against the Proteas, last month has also been rested for the ODI games against the West Indies. KL Rahul, who is continuing his rehabilitation after surgery has also not been called up. The opener expected to remain out of action for over a month.

Team India is all set to a white-ball series against West Indies with the tour set to kick start on 22nd July. The upcoming series will see India play three One Day International (ODI) series against the Caribbean outfit before locking horns with them in five T20Is.

The upcoming white ball tour will be crucial for both the teams as they look to prepare for the highly anticipated T20 World Cup, which is set to be played in Australia later this year. The Men in Blue being their tour with the ODIs scheduled for 22nd, 24th and 26th July. These matches are set to be played at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, and Trinidad. After the three ODI’s, India is all set to play three T20Is against West Indies will square off in five T20Is.

Shikhar Dhawan will be making a comeback after missing out on the South Africa and Ireland games and is all set to captain the team. Apart from the veteran left-handed opener, the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, are added to the squad.
