BCCI Announces India’s ICC T20 WC Squad As Samson, Bishnoi Miss Out

India has named an 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 with 3 cricketers named amongst the reserves for the marquee event. The ICC event is all set to take place in Australia on 16th October with the Super 12 stage kicking off on 22nd October. The Men in Blue are the latest team to announce their squad for the tournament following the likes of England, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Netherlands.

As expected, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to keep the main core of the team intact which includes skipper Rohit Sharma and vice-captain KL Rahul. They will be joined with the likes of Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav amongst the batting order. Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik have been slotted in to fill up the two spots opened up for the wicket keepers at the event.

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, recently underwent a surgery and will miss out on playing at the World Cup. In his absence, Axar Patel has been drafted into the team with the all rounder acting as a like to like replacement for the Saurashtra based star. Deepak Hooda, who featured in the Asia Cup has also been retained in the team as another spin bowling all-rounder option.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been the first-choice option for Rohit Sharma and in the shortest format of the game. He has retained his position in the national team squad traveling to Australia for the World Cup. The leggie will be joined by Ravichandran Ashwin with the veteran off spinner likely to be an effective asset to the Indian team in Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel missed the Asia Cup due to respective injuries. However, the speedsters have regained fitness and will come back to the national squad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar joins the duo with young seamer Arshdeep Singh also finding a spot on the flight to Australia after a top performance in Asia Cup.

Despite the fluster, the Rahul Dravid coached side is still in the running and one of the favorites to emerge victorious in Australia. Rohit Sharma and co will be eager to replicate the success the country tasted in the inaugural edition of the competition in 2007 which took place in South Africa and saw India clinch the maiden ICC T20 World Cup title.

Apart from the squad of the T20 World Cup, the BCCI has also released the T20 teams that will take on South Africa and Australia before the ICC event. Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have not been selected for the series ahead of the World Cup but will to report to the NCA for conditioning-related work during the course of the home series.
