The 12th edition of BBL sees Sydney Thunder square off against Melbourne Stars in the tournament opener. The first game of the season is set to be played at the Manuka Oval on December 13. Defending champions Perth Scorchers will take on Sydney Sixers in their campaign opener.
Both these teams have made it to the finals in the last two years. While the Sixers edged out Scorchers to walk away with the BBL title in the 10th season of the tournament, Scorchers outplayed Sixers in the last years’ final to lift the title. They are all set to square off at Optus Stadium on 17th December.
Group stages are set to be played 13th December to 25th January with matches set to be played everyday apart from 25 December, with players getting a break on Christmas. The knockout games sees the eliminator being scheduled for 27 January with the Qualifier set to be played on 28th January. The Challenger will take place at 2nd February with the finals set to be played two days later.

The general manager of Big Bash League, Alistair Dobson has been quoted by ESPNCricinfo speaking on how the league wants to bounce back. He said, “We’ve been clear since the end of last season given the disruption of two years that rebounding really strongly this season is such a critical thing for us to achieve. This season is one of if not the most important seasons we’ve had in recent years.”
The upcoming edition of the Big Bash League is all set to have three new venues in Albury, Cairns and North Sydney Oval. It is also set to organize a draft for overseas players this season, which is expected to take place in August.
