Arsene Wenger to Leave Arsenal at End of Season

Months and months of Arsenal and general football fans protesting and supporting with ‘WENGER IN‘ and ‘WENGER OUT‘ banners will come to an end now. The final verdict is ‘WENGER OUT’. However, he wasn’t sacked or fired, but he himself announced that he will step down as the boss of Arsenal Football Club at the end of the current season.

Poor results from Arsenal in the last few months raised a lot of questions over Wenger’s style of play and the manager has finally decided to hang up his boots, leaving the club to start searching for a replacement. This decision was made on Thursday evening and announced Friday morning, 22 years after he first took control of the English club.

The 68-year old Frenchman is currently the longest serving manager in the English Premier League, having taken up the job in 1996. “After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,” he wrote in a post on the Arsenal website.

“I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years. I managed the club with full commitment and integrity. I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special. I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high,” he added. Arsenal are currently sixth on the points table. With just 5 matches to go and 14 points away from 4th position, their chances of qualifying to the Champions League look bleak. Former Gunners captain Patrick Vieira is widely tipped to succeed his former boss and become the next Arsenal manager, but they will search extensively for a suitable replacement.
