Ange Postecoglou was appointed as the head coach by the Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on 6th June 2023. His appointment saw him become both the first Australian and the first person born in Greece to manage in the Premier League. While Postecoglou’s career in the Premier League started out quite well, with Tottenham fans being excited by his new tactics and what he got to the table, it has not continued to be like that. The Australian manager is now under threat of being axed by the club, and many reports say that Ange Postecoglou being sacked is only a matter of time.

Ange Postecoglou is under a lot of pressure after the start of the Premier League season he has had. After 22 out of 38 games in the Premier League have been played, Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in an abysmal 15th position. They have picked up just 24 points in 22 games, having won just seven games and drawing three games while losing 12 games. While Spurs somehow have a positive GD (Goal Difference) of 10, no one can deny that they have been incredibly poor this season and might be in need of a change.
To make matters worse, Tottenham Hotspur managed to win just one of their last 10 Premier League games, with seven of them ending in a loss. The fact that Ange Postecoglou’s team has picked up just five out of the possible 30 points in the last 10 games is just ridiculous, and when you look at it this way, it is surprising that Postecoglou has not already been sacked by the club. It is due to such a drastic record that most journalists think that it is only a matter of time before the Australian manager is let go by the club.

Tottenham Hotspur finished fifth in Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge, narrowly missing out on Champions League football by a margin of just two points. While this was not an incredible achievement, fans were more than happy, given that this was Postecoglou’s first season and that they expected improvement in the next season. However, it seems like Tottenham has taken two steps back now and is even further away from their goals than where they were when Ange Postecoglou took over as Tottenham Hotspurs’ manager.

With performances failing to meet expectations, Postecoglou’s tactical approach is being called into question. While his attacking philosophy was celebrated during the early stages of his tenure, deficiencies in the defensive organization and a lack of resilience when the team goes behind have exposed the fragile nature of his system. The failure to secure points against mid-table teams and the inability to win crucial matches have firmly placed Ange Postecoglou on the hot seat. While some Tottenham fans are still hopeful that Postecoglou may be able to turn things around at the club, most Spurs fans have accepted the fact that he will be let go soon.
Ange Postecoglou has suffered multiple injuries, with almost the entirety of his backline being injured as of now. It is true that he is missing crucial players like Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, and his team may be doing much better if the Spurs had their entire squad fit throughout the season. However, these are circumstances that every manager has to go through, and navigating through injuries with squad depth or nurturing young talent is also a skill a good manager should have. While a case can be made that Postecoglou has been unlucky with injuries the season, even Spurs fans will still agree that he deserves to be sacked.
