Akash Singh: Chennai Super Kings’ Rising Star

Akash Singh joined Chennai Super Kings during the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and shined on his debut match for the team. He joined the MS Dhoni-led side as a like-for-like replacement for Mukesh Choudhary, who is has been ruled out for the entirety of IPL 2023 with a stress fracture of the back. As the cricketing fraternity does not know much about him, let’s have a deep dive into his career.

Akash Singh Career

He made his T20 debut for Rajasthan in 2019 while playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He later went on to feature for the India Under-19s team in 2020 when they finished as runners-up in the World Cup, which took place in South Africa Later on, Singh moved from Rajasthan to Nagaland ahead of the 2022-23 domestic season.

Currently, the left-arm seamer features for Nagaland in first-class cricket and has played five first-class matches, with his debut coming against Uttarakhand in December 2022. He fared well and has taken 10 wickets in his first-class career so far. His record in T20 matches sees him claiming nine wickets in 10 matches.

Akash Singh IPL

Akash Singh started off his career in the Indian Premier League when he featured for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi during IPL 2021. He ended with figures of 39/0 off his four overs in his IPL maiden appearance. The pacer found it difficult to get game time and feature in any team’s playing eleven given after a poor show on his debut game. He ended up warming the bench for the rest of the reason.

The young gun was retained by the franchise ahead of the 2022 auction. Despite going unsold in the IPL 2023 auction, Akash Singh was roped in by Chennai Super Kings, with the team set to pay him his base price of 20 Lakh. After his first IPL stint, the young pacer went on to join CSK for IPL 2023 and made his debut against whom he played his first IPL game.

Known for his searing pace, Akash Singh can bowl with genuine pace with the speedster, bowling deliveries up to the speeds of 145 kmph when he finds his stride. The Bharatpur-based bowler has a lot of potential, with CSK also believing in the same ideology, handing him a two-year contract.

The Nagaland star, who replaced Mukesh Choudhary in the CSK set-up, will be eager to replicate his predecessor’s antics. Choudhary was the team’s joint-highest wicket-taker in the last season of IPL. Akash will hope to be the upcoming emerging star for CSK this year and make himself a vital part of MS Dhoni’s side.
