Both the Zimbabwe cricket team and the Afghanistan cricket team had incredible showings with the bat in this test, and as it turned out, as both teams looked good with the bat, neither ended up being able to secure a result, and the match ended up being a draw. This article talks about the multiple records that were broken in the game between the Afghanistan cricket team and the Zimbabwe cricket team.

Zimbabwe’s highest-ever score in Test cricket was 563/9, something they managed in the game against the West Indies cricket team in July 2001. Zimbabwe batted first but had a poor showing. However, they made up for this in the second inning. They made 563 runs, pushing the game to a draw. This total stood as their highest-ever score before their recent game against Afghanistan. In this game, the Zimbabwe cricket team managed to score 586 runs before being bowled out, setting a record for their highest-ever total. This was just one of the multiple records broken that day.

Another record that Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmat Shah broke during this game was the highest-ever partnership for any wicket in Afghanistan’s history. The duo managed a 364-run third-wicket partnership and formed the core of the Afghanistan cricket team in the test against Zimbabwe, helping them achieve a score of 699. This is a very strong record and will probably stand for many years to come. It will be very difficult for some other duo to break this record set by Shahidi and Shah.

It was not just Zimbabwe that broke the record for the highest-ever total, but also the Afghanistan cricket team. The highest score in Afghanistan’s history was 545/4, something they managed in March 2021 against the Zimbabwe cricket team. They hit 545 runs in the first inning and managed to win the match by six wickets. This record was broken recently, once again against Zimbabwe. In the first test against Zimbabwe in December 2024, Afghanistan managed to score a whopping 699 runs before being bowled out, setting the record for the highest-ever score in Afghanistan’s history.
Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain of the Afghanistan cricket team in the test match against Zimbabwe, managed to have a brilliant showing. Shahidi scored 246 runs in 474 balls, including 21 fours at a strike rate of 51.90. This is the highest individual score in Afghanistan’s history. In fact, the second-highest score was also made in the same game. Rahmat Shah scored 234 runs in 424 balls, taking the spot for the second-highest score in Afghanistan’s history. The highest score before this game was by Hashmatullah Shahidi, who scored 200 runs in 443 balls back in 2021.
