The AFC Asian Cup is a competition played by the senior men’s national teams of the members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The tournament was founded in 1956. It is the second oldest continental football championship in the world after Copa America. The competition was held every four years from 1956 till 2004. However, in 2004, the AFC decided to move the competition to a less crowded cycle and kept the tournament in 2007. Since then, the tournament has been held once every four years.
