New Zealand speedster Adam Milne has sustained an Achilles injury which rules him out of the Kiwis’ ongoing tour of Europe. The 30-year-old continues to struggle with his fitness which has hampered his international career. He was rumored to feel some pain in his left Achilles tendon when he trained during the Kiwis’ first net session in Ireland.

Later, he was taken for a scan which revealed that Milne needs to undergo rehabilitation and needs to rest. Given the extent of the injury, the 30-year-old has headed home and with the potential recovery timeframe seeing him return to action in early August.
NZ bowling coach Shane Jurgensen spoke on the 30-year-old’s injury. He shared how Milne is determined to make himself available for selection soon with the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 just round the corner. Jurgensen was quoted saying, “We’re naturally disappointed for Adam Milne. He’s a great character in any team and I am sure he’ll apply his strong will to this next phase of rehabilitation. ”
The 46-year-old added, “There is still a lot of cricket to come this year including the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. Adam Milne is determined to make himself available to be part of that selection picture.”
New Zealand have called up Jacob Duffy to the T20I squad as a replacement for the injured Adam Milne. The Otago pace bowler recently made his debut for the Kiwis during the second ODI game against Ireland. He has now been added to the T20I squad for the upcoming matches.
Jurgensen shared how the NZ management is backing Duffy to do well while speaking about the pacers’ debut against Pakistan. He said, “We’re backing Jacob to step up. He’s made an exciting start to his white ball international career. He’s an established performer in the Super Smash and showed on T20 debut against Pakistan that he can transfer those skills to international cricket.”
They kick-started their tour of Europe with a three-match ODI series against Ireland in Dublin. Following the completion of the ODIs, both the teams are set to lock horns in three T20I matches. Later, the Black Caps are scheduled to play a couple of T20Is against Scotland with a solitary ODI to follow. They end their continental tour with a two-match T20I series against the Netherlands before heading out to West Indies for white ball series in August.
