South Africa legend AB de Villiers has finally opened up his position on a potential return to Indian Premier League on Monday. The Royal Challengers Bangalore icon cleared air on his comeback speculations during an interaction with fans on Twitter spaces.
While interacting with one of his followers, the former South Africa star claimed that he will return to Chinnaswamy next year. However, the 38-year-old cricketer did not mention the role or capacity in which he is set to make a comeback to the home ground of RCB franchise.
He also went on to add that the return will not see him play and that it is a gesture to thank all the fans for the support he has received for a decade. De Villiers was also heard saying that, “I am not playing cricket again due to right side eye surgery,” during the Twitter space on Monday.
AB Devilliers said “I will return to Chinnaswamy next year, not for playing but to thank all the fans for the support over a decade”.

Earlier, there were a lot of questions surrounding the former batter’s future with the RCB franchise. However, AB De Villiers squashed them with a statement during IPL 2022. The swashbuckling wicket keeper was quoted saying, “I will be around RCB next year, I am missing it, don’t know in which capacity but I would like to visit my second home which is Chinnaswamy stadium — I am looking forward to it.”

De Villiers had hung up his boots on his international career back in 2018, with his last IPL appearance for RCB coming against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021. Included in the RCB Hall of Fame along side West Indies’ star Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, who was included is considered to be amongst the greatest white-ball cricketers in the history of cricket.
Known for his jaw dropping hitting in the One-day International format of the game, AB de Villiers boasts the record of scoring the fastest fifty as well as the fastest hundred in the format. He has amassed over 9,577 runs in 228 matches in 50 over games.
AB de Villiers joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008 and has been one of the consistent performers for the franchise over the years. He has scored 5,162 runs from 170 innings in the IPL while averaging 38.70 and recording a strike rate of 151.68. So far, he also remains to be the sixth highest scorer in IPL history.
