The game between Manchester United and Arsenal which took place on 9th March 2025 at Old Trafford saw both teams wanting to play their best. While Manchester United have been having a much worse season than Arsenal, both teams have been experiencing setbacks recently. United sat 15th in the league and had won just one of their last four Premier League games before their game against Arsenal. However, they managed to put in an incredible performance against Arsenal and actually opened the scoring against them. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for Manchester United, giving them a lead going into halftime.
Manchester United were awarded a direct freekick in shooting range just before the first half ended. Fernandes struck the ball beautifully, and the ball sailed into the top right corner, past David Raya, giving United a lead in the 2nd minute of the first half injury-time. While Arsenal conceded first and was down by a goal during halftime, they were not ready to give up yet. Arsenal came out strong in the second half and dominated the ball. They kept throwing attacks at Manchester United, but the Red Devils’ defence kept repelling them, clearing their lines to keep hold of their one-goal lead.

In the 74th minute, Arsenal finally managed to break through. Justin Timber rolled the ball towards Declan Rice, who was just inside United’s box. He decided to hit the ball the first time, struck it brilliantly, and saw it fly past Andre Onana and settle into the back of the net. His shot went in off the post, but this brilliant effort from Rice meant that Arsenal had now equalized and could charge forward and try to win the game. However, Arsenal was unable to create many opportunities, and it was Manchester United, on the counterattack, that seemed more likely to score the winner.

The Red Devils even got a couple of chances to do so, with the best of them falling to Bruno Fernandes in the 93rd minute. Diogo Dalot crossed the ball into the box, and Mazraoui managed to retrieve it from inside Arsenal’s box. He cut the ball back right into the path of Bruno Fernandes, who struck the ball first time. However, Raya made an excellent save to deny Fernandes and followed this up by clearing the ball off the line to help keep the score level and salvage a draw against Manchester United. While Arsenal almost ended up losing, they would still be very disappointed having dropped points against Manchester United.
This was a game that Arsenal had to most definitely win if they wanted to stay in the title race. This draw at Old Trafford means that they have now drawn two and lost one of their last three games and are 15 points behind Liverpool. While Arsenal still has a game in hand, this gap seems to be too much for Arsenal to try to close down, and it seems like the title race has come to an end more or less now. Dropping points against Manchester United could spell the end of Arsenal’s title hopes, and despite Arsenal’s never-give-up attitude, they seem to be ready to throw in the white flag and accept defeat this season.
