Luis Figo’s transfer to Real Madrid is one of the most controversial transfers in football history. Luka Jovic came into the limelight during his time with Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt. While his career started taking off at Benfica, it was at Frankfurt that the Serbian star really came into his own. His performances caught the eyes of some of the top clubs in the world, and Real Madrid decided to make the first move. They paid a hefty fee of €63 Million to secure his services, signing him on 4th June 2019 on a six-year contract. Jovic represented Los Blancos across three seasons from 2019 to 2022 before moving to Serie A side Fiorentina at the start of the 2022/23 seasons.

Kaka is one of the biggest legends in Real Madrid’s history. The Brazilian attacking midfielder started out at Sao Paulo and, after showing promising talent, was signed by Serie A side AC Milan. He represented the Italian club for over six seasons before Real Madrid decided to make a move for him. The Los Blancos signed Kaka on 8th June 2009 for a transfer fee of €67 Million, making him one of the most expensive transfers in Real Madrid’s history. The Brazilian star played for Madrid over four years, making 120 appearances for them across all competitions, winning titles like the La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

James Rodriguez became one of the most expensive players in Real Madrid’s history when they decided to sign him from AS Monaco on a six-year contract on 22nd July 2014 for €75 Million. Rodriguez was good for Monaco, but what impressed the world was his performance in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He had one of the best campaigns of all time and ended up winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot as well as the Goal of the Tournament. His performances convinced Madrid to pay a hefty fee and secure his services. The Colombian star represented Madrid across four seasons, making a total of 125 appearances for them across all competitions.

Zinedine Zidane is a French footballer who is regarded as one of the best midfielders of all time. He represented French clubs Cannes and Bordeaux from 1989 to 1992 and 1992 to 1996, respectively. However, the so-called peak of his career came in the later stages. Zidane played for Juventus from 1996 to 2001, putting in some incredible performances and helping them win various trophies. Real Madrid had their heart set on the French star ahead of the 2001/02 season and signed him for €77.5 Million. He played for the La Liga side for five seasons, making 230 appearances for them across all competitions before retiring.

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best players of all time, which is why it is not surprising that he is one of the most expensive transfers in Real Madrid’s history. The Portuguese star developed into a terrific player for Manchester United, and the Los Blancos decided to break the then-world record fee to sign him, paying a massive fee of €94 Million to do so. Ronaldo played for Real Madrid across nine seasons, making 438 appearances for them across all competitions and scoring 450 goals. He won several prestigious awards while at the club, including two La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League trophies, and four Ballon d’Or awards.

Aurelien Tchouameni is another star who moved from AS Monaco to Real Madrid. The French star impressed with the Ligue 1 side, and Los Blancos decided to make a move for him. Monaco set a very steep price for the player, but Madrid agreed to pay it, securing the services of Tchouameni on 11th June 2022. The basic fee for the French star was €80 Million, but after accounting for additional fees, this could have risen to €100 Million. Aurelien Tchouameni made his debut for the La Liga side on 10th August 2022 and has continued to represent them ever since. He has already made 120 appearances for them across all competitions.

Gareth Bale became the most expensive player in the world when he was signed by Real Madrid on 1st September 2013. The Welsh star developed into a really impressive winger while representing Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. His performance convinced the Los Blancos to sign him, and they paid a world record fee of €100.8 Million to secure the services of the Welsh star. Bale made his debut for Real Madrid in the 2013/14 season and managed to score on his debut. He represented the La Liga side across eight seasons, making a total of 258 appearances for them across all competitions.

Jude Bellingham became one of Real Madrid’s most expensive transfers when they decided to secure his services on 14th June 2023 for a base fee of €103 Million. However, there are potential add-ons attached to this deal that could cause the transfer fee to rise by 30% to approximately €133.9 million. They signed him from Borussia Dortmund, the place where Bellingham really came into his own and started playing like one of the best midfielders in the world. The English star made his debut for Real Madrid on 12th August 2023 against Athletic Bilbao. Bellingham has already made 76 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Eden Hazard first started impressing on the French side, Lille, but it was after moving to Premier League side Chelsea that he became a world-class player. He was absolutely phenomenal for Chelsea and became one of the best wingers in the world while playing for them. The Belgian star’s name was taken alongside the likes of Neymar Jr. Real Madrid paid a fee of €100 Million to sign him on 7th June 2019, with add-ons seeing the transfer fee possibly rise to €146.1 Million. However, his move to Madrid did not end up working and actually marked a period of huge downfall in Eden Hazard’s career, with the Belgian deciding to retire from the club.
