Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar were two of the only three players retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League. Once the retentions were announced, it was clear that RCB’s new captain would be one of Virat Kohli or Rajat Patidar. While fan speculation leaned towards Virat Kohli reclaiming his role as RCB’s captain, it did not turn out that way, and Rajat Patidar was named the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2025. This article talks about Virat Kohli’s opening about RCB deciding to make Rajat Patidar the captain.

Royal Challengers Bangalore announced Rajat Patidar as the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain ahead of IPL 2025. While the fans always knew it was going to be a toss-up between Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli, most fans wanted Kohli to reassume the role of RCB’s captain. While Patidar has proved to be a very important player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he does not seem to be a leader figure. The Indian star being 31 years old is another reason why fans did not want him to take over as the captain. They either wanted Virat Kohli to take over as the captain or for the franchise to pick a young candidate who could be the new face of RCB.
However, Virat Kohli does not agree with this thinking and only has positive things to say about Rajat Patidar being named as the new captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. While RCB fans assumed that Kohi would be in the running to become the RCB captain after looking at the retentions, Kohli never explicitly said so. It is also possible that he does not want to return as the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain and that this was a decision taken by the player and not by the franchise.
