Thibaut Courtois’ football career started when he joined Bilzen V.V. in 1997. Courtois originally started as a left-back at the club, and after a couple of years at the club, RC Genk decided to sign him for their youth academy. It is here that Courtois decided to convert from left-back to goalkeeper. The young star spent a lot of time in the youth academy, developing and honing his skills at Genk, where Koen Casteels was initially regarded as the primary goalkeeper.
An injury to Casteels gave Courtois the opportunity to prove his worth, and he made his debut on 17th April 2009 against Gent. He quickly garnered attention from various clubs, and after turning down a transfer to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim of the Bundesliga, Courtois was made first-choice goalkeeper for the 2010/11 season. The Belgian star made 40 appearances in the Belgian Pro League in his final season with the club, and his performances caught the eye of English Premier League side Chelsea.
On this day 2011, Thibaut Courtois joined Chelsea from Genk for £8m. After 3 successful loans at Atletico Madrid, he became Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper in 2014, winning 2 Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup before moving to real Madrid in 2018.

Thibaut Courtois’ latest contract with the club was a five-year deal signed on 16th August 2021. This will keep him at the club till the summer of 2026. The keeper has played an essential part in helping Madrid win several trophies, and the Los Blancos fans will be delighted that they have locked down Courtois for the foreseeable future. The club knows the Belgian star’s worth and offered him a contract accordingly. This deal sees him earn over $16 Million per year, netting him around $310,000 per week.
While this is quite a big contract, Courtois is not even among the top five highest-paid Real Madrid players, and the fans know that he absolutely deserves to have a contract worth this much and more and they will hope that he will continue to help them win trophies in the future. While his contract still has quite some time left, the Belgian star is still as good as he has ever been, and it will not be surprising if Real Madrid decide to offer him a new contract to extend his stay at the club even further. Such a contract will only help the keeper increase his net worth even further in the future.
