There has been quite a lot of competition while competing for the European Golden Shoe award, but most of the names on this list will not come as a shock to anybody. Recent European Golden Shoe Winners

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) – 2023/24

Harry Kane is a prolific striker known for his goal-scoring abilities. The English star joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023 and won the European Golden Shoe in his first season with the club. Kane scored 36 goals in the 2023/24 season, but despite this, his team was unable to win a single trophy in the entire season.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 2022/23

Erling Haaland’s rise as a striker has been absolutely phenomenal. His breakout season came with RB Salzburg, after which he joined Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and Manchester City in 2022. Haaland is just 24 years old but has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world. He scored 36 goals with Manchester City in the 2022/23 season and helped them win the coveted treble (Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and FA Cup) in his very first season at the club.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) – 2021/22

Robert Lewandowski is regarded as one of the best strikers ever, and many believe that he should have won at least one Ballon d’Or in his career. The striker had a phenomenal 2021/22 season with Bayern Munich and scored 35 goals to help his team win the league title. This was his last season with the German club, and the Polish star moved to La Liga side Barcelona after this season.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) – 2020/21

This is the second time Robert Lewandowski appears on this list. He won the European Golden Shoe in consecutive seasons (2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons), both coming while he played for Bayern Munich. The Polish striker scored 41 goals this season, helping his team win the Bundesliga and the DFL-Supercup titles.

Ciro Immobile (Lazio) – 2019/20

Ciro Immobile is an Italian striker who currently plays for Turkish club Besiktas. He was a phenomenal striker for Serie A side Lazio and played for them for eight seasons between 2016 and 2024. One of his best seasons came in the 2019/20 season when he scored 36 goals and won the European Golden Shoe.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – 2018/19

Lionel Messi is regarded as one of if not the best players of all time. The Argentine superstar won the European Golden Shoe three years in a row, with his last success coming in the 2018/19 season. The winger scored 36 goals in the 2018/19 season to help his team win the La Liga title. As it turned out, this would be the last league title the forward would end up winning with the Spanish club.

Lionel Messi (Barcelona) – 2017/18

As usual, the Argentine forward was simply amazing for Barcelona, destroying his opponents throughout the season. He scored 34 goals in that season to secure the award. He ended up winning the La Liga as well as the Copa del Rey trophies with the Spanish side that season.

Lionel Messi’s incredible run of winning three consecutive European Golden Shoe awards started in the 2016/17 season. The Barcelona star had managed to get his hands on this award in the 2016/17 season after four years. Messi scored 34 goals for Barcelona in that season while helping them win La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana trophies in the 2016/17 season.

Luis Suarez (Barcelona) – 2015/16

Luis Suarez won the European Golden Shoe with Barcelona in the 2015/16 season. This was his first time winning the award with the Spanish club and the second time in his career. The Uruguayan star scored 40 goals that season and helped Barcelona win the La Liga and the Copa del Rey trophies that season. This was the last time Luis Suarez ever won the European Golden Shoe in his career.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s last European Golden Shoe award came in the 2014/15 season. This was his fourth time winning the award and the third time he had won it while representing Real Madrid in the La Liga. Ronaldo absolutely lit it up for the Los Blancos that season, scoring a whopping 48 goals to secure the European Golden Shoe. While his team did not end up winning any major trophy in the 2014/15 season, this was one of Ronaldo’s best seasons statistically.
