The UEFA Champions League is one of the most elite tournaments in which the top European clubs can participate. It is an extremely prestigious competition which takes place in a league and knockout format. The tournament starts with eight groups of four teams each. Each team plays the other team in their group twice. The top two teams of each group qualify for the knockout stages. The league stage is followed by four knockout rounds, with every round apart from the final consisting of two legs (home and away). The winner is crowned as the champion of Europe.
The UEFA Champions League draw was released on 15th March 2024. Eight different teams have qualified for the Quarter-Final stage of the tournament. Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and Atletico Madrid have all qualified. Some very big teams have made it to the Quarter-Finals, which is now shaping up for a blockbuster finish in the 2023-24 Champions League campaign.
Manchester City and Real Madrid are yet the favourites to win the UEFA Champions League title this season. Manchester City are the defending champions and will hope to become the only team apart from Real Madrid to retain the Champions League trophy in the last three decades. City won the treble last year, but it does not look like their thirst for trophies has been quenched. They are competing against Liverpool and Arsenal for the Premier League title and are still in the FA Cup and Champions League tournaments. The Cityzens will look to make history and go for back-to-back trebles.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, have looked amazing this season. They have a seven-point lead at the top of the La Liga table. We already know the pedigree Los Blancos has in the UEFA Champions League. They are the most successful club in the Champions League, having won the tournament 14 times. They hope to add number 15 to their trophy cabinet this season. Players like Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham have looked exceptionally menacing this season and can help guide Real Madrid to yet another Champions League trophy.
