New Zealand set Afghanistan a target of 289 runs to win their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup clash. The Kiwis had a solid start with the bat, but three quick wickets derailed their innings and left them in a spot of bother at 110/4.

However, a splendid partnership of 144 runs between Glenn Phillips and Tom Latham helped New Zealand recover and post a challenging total. Phillips scored a well-crafted 71, while Latham contributed with a valuable 68. Afghanistan’s sloppy fielding also played a part in allowing New Zealand to get to a competitive total.

In reply, Afghanistan’s chase got off to a rocky start as New Zealand’s pace trio of Trent Boult, Matt Henry, and Lockie Ferguson took a wicket each to put the pressure on the opposition. While Afghanistan’s top order showed some resistance, they eventually succumbed to the pressure of the required run rate.
