Most Run Scored In The Last Ball In The History Of Cricket

Most Run Scored In The Last Ball In The History Of Cricket: In a nail-biting match between the Chepauk Super Gillies and Salem Spartans during the TNPL 2023, Sanjay Yadav’s four No-Balls in an over proved to be a game-changer. With only one ball remaining to end the innings, Chepauk smashed 18 runs to conclude their innings.

The TNPL 2023 is one of India’s most prestigious domestic cricket leagues, and this match certainly lived up to the hype. Fans were on the edge of their seats as Chepauk and Salem battled it out on the field, with both teams giving it their all. Despite the excitement of the game, it’s important to note that 18 runs in one ball is not a world record. The world record is 286 runs in one ball, which seems impossible. Yes, you heard it right!

Most Run Scored In The Last Ball: 286 Runs In One Ball

The story originated on 15th January 1894. The article reported that a match had been played at Bunbury in Western Australia between Victoria and a “scratch XI from the neighborhood.” The Victorians were batting first, and the first ball of the match was hit into the branches of a tall jarrah tree inside the ground.

The home team appealed for a lost ball, but the umpires refused to declare the ball ‘lost’ because they could see the exact spot where it was stuck. The Victorians then began running between the wickets, hoping to score as many runs as possible before the ball could be retrieved.

The home team tried to bring down the tree with an axe, but they were unsuccessful. They then tried to shoot the ball down with a rifle, but they missed the target several times. After many attempts, the ball was finally shot down and brought to the ground.

By this time, the Victorians had run 286 runs, creating the world record for most runs off a single delivery in cricket. The Victorians then declared, bringing the innings to a close.

However, there are several reasons to believe that this story is false:

  1. There is no other record of this match taking place.
  2. The story was first reported in an English newspaper, and it is not mentioned in any Australian newspapers.
  3. The story is based on a misunderstanding of the rules of cricket.

In cricket, a ball is only considered lost if it cannot be found after a reasonable amount of searching. The ball was visible in this case, so it would not have been considered lost.

The story of the 286-run delivery is likely an urban legend created by someone who misunderstood the rules of cricket. The story has been repeated many times over the years and has become increasingly exaggerated each time. However, there is no evidence to support the claim that it happened.
