Yuzvendra Chahal has gone onto to claim his 171st wicket in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It sees the spinner edge past IPL legend Lasith Malinga and become the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament’s history. Dwayne Bravo leads the list, having taken 183 wickets during his playing days in the franchised-based T20 competition.
Chahal first attracted attention during his Under-19 days when he featured in the Cooch Behar Trophy back in 2009. He ended up being the leading wicket-taker, claiming 34 wickets in the tournament. Having represented India at chess across various junior levels, Chahal went entered cricket and made his first-class debut for Haryana in 2011. It was the same year when he was signed by Mumbai Indians and got a chance to be part of the IPL.
He failed to make any significant impact for Mumbai Indians and played only one game in IPL 2013, his debut year. However, Since then, he has been a constant feature in the Indian Premier League. The attacking leg spinner shined with the ball in IPL during his stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He found the bulk of his success with the Bangalore-based franchise and also was their highest wicket-taker for two years in a row.

After shining for RCB, Chahal joined Rajasthan Royals after they acquired his services for 6.50 Crore. He ended up winning the Purple Cap in IPL 2022 and has also been in great form in IPL 2023 too. In his previous IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Yuzvendra Chahal claimed figures of 17/4 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Ahead of his second outing in IPL 2023, Chahal has played 132 matches in his IPL career so far, having taken 170 wickets. With a best individual figure of 5/40, the spinner records an average of 21.42, while conceding nearly 7.59 runs per over. It is also worth noting that Chahal could also take over Dwayne Bravo and be the highest wicket-taker in IPL history.
