IPL 2023 Auction: 3 Players Mumbai Indians Could Bid For

Mumbai Indians (MI) had a season to forget in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with the five-time champions ending the season at the bottom of the league table. Rohit Sharma’s men managed to record just four wins from 14 games and will be eager to bounce back in IPL 2023.

The first step for the team will be to do well in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction, which is set to take place in Kochi on December 23. With the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah being the main core of the team, Ishan Kishan (15.25 cr) and Jofra Archer (8 cr) put a pretty big dent in MI’s purse. With 20.55 crore left in their kitty and a few overseas’ spots left, here are three players the Ambani-owned franchise will look to sign in the IPL 2023 auction.

Cameron Green

Mumbai Indians will be looking at the IPL 2023 auction as the opportunity to replace their long-serving all-rounder Kieron Pollard. The West Indies super star announced retirement from IPL and will now be seen playing the role of batting coach of MI in the upcoming 2023 season.

The 5-time champions are on the out for a good pace bowling all-rounder to fill the big shoes of the West Indies veteran and Cameron Green fits the bill.  The 23-year-old boosts the ability to deliver with the bat while also bowling over 140 kmph on a consistent basis. With a base price of 2 crores, MI will surely look to sign up the young Australian all-rounder, who will enter the IPL 2023 auction as one of the hottest properties up for grabs.

Adil Rashid

The spin bowling department remains to be a big issue for the most successful team in the history of the tournament. The lack of a quality spinner was heavily felt by the team last season despite having the likes of Mayank Markande Hrithik Shokeen and Murugan Ashwin in the team.

However, the trio failed to shine for the Blue & Gold, which saw the team part ways with Murgan Ashwin too. While the pace department boasts some excellent firepower, the spin bowling department looks weak. Adil Rashid is the perfect player to fill the massive hole with the spinner, most likely to fulfil a role which is not dissimilar to what he does for England.

He has been in great form, and his wicket-maiden in the 12th over of the ICC T20 World Cup final against Pakistan is a fresh memory. Mumbai Indians will be eager to lay their hands on him and sign up such a skilled player in IPL 2023 auction.

Shivam Mavi

Mumbai Indians have struggled for a quality Indian fast bowler in the previous edition of the tournament. While Bumrah failed to get going at the start if the tournament, Unadkat failed to impress and was later released by Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2023 action. They will be in the market for a pacer and could opt to pair up Jasprit Bumrah with Shivam Mavi.

The Mumbai Indians were the only other team who wanted Mavi apart from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) back in the 2018 edition of IPL. Since then, the Uttar Pradesh-born pacer has developed into a good swing bowler who can bowl at high speed on a consistent basis. Currently in the IPL 2023 auction pool after being released by KKR, Mumbai Indians would certainly look to get him in the team.
