Virat Kohli significantly impacted how the Indian cricket team played when the captain of the Indian cricket team. Despite giving up the captaincy back in 2021, he set a tone and road map for the Men in Blue. He decided to hand over the leadership to Rohit Sharma after the T20 World Cup in 2021 before leaving captaincy in Test and ODI as well.
Currently, the right-handed batsman is a part of the Indian team and is a vital cog across all three formats of the game. Despite not being a captain right now, Virat Kohli had a major role for the Men in Blue over the years. While many players credit their success to Kohli, here are a few players who failed to do well when the 34-year-old was at the helm.
Prithvi Shaw made a bright start to his career during Virat Kohli’s tenure as skipper of the national team. He impressed everyone during his debut in 2018 and played some promising knocks that could have helped him cement a place in the squad. However, despite featuring in 6 ODIs, 5 Tests and a single T20I for India, Shaw is currently nowhere near the radar of the Indian team.

The right-handed opener found himself to be ousted from the side despite a solid start to his career. Shaw’s last international game came back in July 2021, with the 23-year still unable to get a game despite excellent outings in the domestic circuit as well as the IPL over the last two years.
Just like Shaw, Rahul Chahar is another player who failed to get going despite shining for India at the international level. The young spinner debuted for the Men in Blue under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and was also a part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 squad.

So far, the 23-year-old has played in 6 T20Is claiming seven wickets and a single ODI where he took three for India. Despite making a promising start for the national team in white ball cricket, Rahul Chahar has completely vanished from the selection radar of the national team. The right-arm spinner is not even part of the India A team that goes on multiple tours for a while and is not being considered for any international matches as well.
A part of the Indian test team that registered a historic Test series win against Australia, T Natarajan made his international debut in December 2020. The left-arm medium-pacer played a few games for the Men in Blue, featuring 4 T20Is, 2 ODIs, and the solo test at Gabba. The SRH pacer had fared well at the international level, claiming three wickets each in white ball cricket while claiming seven dismissals in his only Test match outing.
However, T Natarajan becomes yet another player whose career seems to be stagnated because of Virat Kohli.
Despite some magnificent performances, he was never given another chance to showcase his talent at the highest level. The pacer is nowhere near the selectors’ radar eyesight for the national team and will have a lot of work to get back in the side.
