The RPSG Group announced a new role for former India opener Gautam Gambhir with the ex-cricketer named as the global mentor of the group’s cricketing operations. Recently, the 40-year-old helped the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants make it to the qualifiers in their maiden campaign.
He is now set to help the RPSG Group owned T20 team in Cricket South Africa’s league- SA 20 named Durban Super Giants. Gambhir is all set to mentor the team for the upcoming season after he was handed a new role by the RPSG Group on Friday.

The former opener has been one of the smartest minds in the cricketing fraternity since his retirement. He also played a crucial role for the Men In Blue in their World Cup winning campaigns. Gambhir was the top scorer for India during their inaugural T20 World Cup final in 2007. He was also a vital cog for India in their 50-over World Cup triumph in 2011.
The RPSG group released a statement which quoted the Global Mentor Lucknow Super Giants and Durban’s Super Giants Gautam Gambhir. It read as, “In my ideology of a team sport designations don’t play much role. At best they are there to facilitate a process to make a team win. As a Global mentor of Super Giants I look forward to some added responsibility.”

“My intensity and passion to win have just got International wings. It will be a proud moment to see the Super Giants family leave a global imprint . I thank Super Giants family for showing that faith in me . Guess it’s time for some more sleepless nights,” he added.
Gautam Gambhir recently featured in Legends League Cricket and captained India Capitals to the league title. His side rode on the performances of former New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor who scored a 41-ball 82to the Capitals’ pick up the coveted trophy at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday.
