#BoycottIPL Trends After India’s Early Asia Cup Elimination

Fans of the Indian cricket team have been affected by the ‘Boycott’ fever with cricket maniacs wanting to ban the Indian Premier League (IPL). Cricket supporters have been asking everyone to boycott the franchise-based tournament with the #BoycottIPL trending on Twitter over the last few days.

The Men in Blue suffered consecutive losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Asia Cup 2022. It has infuriated the fans as the Rahul Dravid coached team was knocked out in the Super 4 stage of the 6-nation tournament. The losing streak started off when Rohit Sharma’s team played out a 5-wicket loss to their arch-rivals Pakistan. Later, India lost to Sri Lanka which virtually knocked them out of the race to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 final.

Following up with the run of poor results #BoycottIPL started trending on Twitter with ‘fans’ suggesting their opinion on how the players feature in the IPL only for the money and lack the passion for the sport while playing for the national cricket team.

Fans have provided varied opinions with some Twitterati also questioning the BCCI’s selection process. Some fans demanded the Indian cricket board to make a better squad for the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup.  There were also some opinions calling for Rohit Sharma to be “sacked” as the team skipper with fans calling how Virat Kohli or Dhoni could have led the team better and propelled the Asia Cup finals. The 35 year old skipper has also come under fire for his treatment of Arshdeep Singh with Rohit visibly seen ignoring the young seamer after he dropped a catch against Pakistan.
