Asia Cup 2022: Kohli – Shastri Duo Better Than Dravid – Sharma: India is on the edge of getting eliminated in the current edition of Asia Cup 2022. A defeat against Pakistan is something we, as Indians, can’t take very lightly. The team got a new captain, Rohit Sharma, with a vision of winning an ICC trophy. BCCI replaced Virat Kohli of the hunger for the ICC trophy. The board clarified that they needed the ICC trophy after shelving Ravi Shastri as team India’s coach and appointing Rahul Dravid.
India under Shastri and Kohli became the powerhouse in every game format. The squad registered several records and had shown the world that India can dominate and will dominate on every possible soil. However, this hunger, this passion, this greed to win, I can’t see this intensity under Rahul Dravid’s tenure.
Yes, it’s been only eight months since Dravid was appointed as a head coach, but an aggressive attitude that the squad used to carry is lost somewhere. Well, under Kohli, India was unable to win the ICC trophy but was dominating in every format. This fact leaves us with only a question: Was the Kohli-Shastri duo better than Dravid-Sharma?

As mentioned above, under Kohli and Shastri, India was a powerhouse in Test cricket. The squad had won 25 games out of 43 Test matches. India under Shastri won every series they played except England tour in 2018, where the squad lost 1 – 4 and 1 – 2 against South Africa. The Men in Blue were the No.1 team in ICC rankings for 37 months under Kohli-Shastri’s leadership.
Talking about ODI’s, the duo won 54 games of 81 One Day Internationals, where the team had an exceptional winning ratio of 2.25. The squad also reached the semi-final of the 2019 Cricket World, where New Zealand defeated the team. Well, in the T20s, team India was an unstoppable force. The squad under this duo played 69 T20 matches, where India won 44.
India under-19 cricket groomed very well under Rahul Dravid’s guidance. He is indeed one of India’s finest coaches and cricketing veterans. However, as one of Dravid’s fans, it’s hard to digest that someone who’s known as The Wall is failing as an Indian coach.
India under Dravid had played seven Test matches, where the squad had won four games, lost two, and ended up with one NR. Regarding ODIs, team India had played nine ODI’s under Dravid’s tenure, where the squad had won five and lost four ODIs.
India is currently playing Asia Cup 2022, where the squad is on the verge of getting eliminated. Defeat against Sri Lanka, and defeat against Pakistan is something; being the wealthiest and most powerful cricketing board, BCCI may not take it very lightly if India gets eliminated in the current edition of Asia Cup 2022. In that case, I believe that ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be the last chance for Dravid to justify his position in the India cricket team.
