Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid has been rumored to have tested positive for Covid-19. The former Indian cricketer is reported to not travel with the Men in Blue squad to Dubai with fears looming over his availability for the at the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2022.
Rahul Dravid was not a part of the Indian team that recently registered a whitewash series win over Zimbabwe with interim coach VVS Laxman taking charge of the side. The former cricketer is now expected to continue his role with the Men in Blues at the upcoming tournament.
The National Cricket Academy (NCA) director recently helped the Men in Blue register a 2-0 series win during their tour of Ireland, earlier this year before overseeing the national team’s clean sweep against Zimbabwe in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. The interim coach is likely to be taking charge of the side for the 6-nation tournament starting 27th August. He will be hopeful of keeping his winning streak intact when India square off against Pakistan in their tournament opener in Dubai.
So far, a few players of the Indian team have left for Dubai and begin preparations for their tournament opener against arch-rivals Pakistan on 28th August. Members of the Men in Green have also begun to assemble in Dubai following the completion of their series against Netherlands.

Rahul Dravid alongside batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey were rested by the BCCI for the Zimbabwe tour. They were supposed to link up with the Men in Blue squad directly in Dubai. However, it’s not clear if Dravid will be able to rejoin the team for the opening game after getting the all-clear from the medical staff. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to share a statement to confirm the reports on Rahul Dravid’s health.
The Men in Blue will see the return of all-format captain Rohit Sharma join the team after being rested for the ODI series against Zimbabwe. The Asia Cup squad will also see former captain Virat Kohli come back to the side after missing out in the tours against West Indies and Zimbabwe. However, India will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah as well as Harshal Patel with the pacers ruled out of the Asia Cup due to respective injuries.
