Pakistan skipper Babar Azam caught the limelight for the wrong reasons despite having a great outing with the bat in the 3-match ODI series against the Netherlands. The Men in Green skipper recorded his third half-century of the series. He ended up scoring 91 runs in the last ODI in helping his side get to a competitive total, holding onto his wicket while the Dutch managed to get rid of other Pak batters on regular occasions.
Azam’s innings helped Pakistan get to 206 after as the hosts looked to edge closer on recording a historic win against the Men in Green in Netherlands. However, the likes of Mohammad Wasim Jr and Naseem Shah wreaked havoc with the ball helping the visitors register a narrow win by the margin of just nine runs.
Speaking with the media during the post-match conference, Babar Azam mistakenly called the Netherlands bowlers as ‘Scotland’ bowlers. Pakistan’s skipper was speaking about how the visitors were trying out their bench strength, after securing the series. The 27-year-old also went on to add how the pace of the wicket was quite slow while referring to the Netherlands bowlers as Scotland bowlers and ended up praising them.
Speaking with the media during the post-match conference, Babar Azam said, “We tried our bench strength. Early on, the ball wasn’t coming on well. We were short in the first innings. But credit to the Scotland bowlers who bowled very well.”
After the glaring error, he also spoke on the performances of Shah, Wasim Jr, and Dahani in the second innings., “We are happy as a team. All credit to boys. They bowled very well in the second innings. He’s (Naseem) bowling very well with the new ball and in the death overs. Wasim also bowling well. And Dahani,” Babar Azam added.
