England international Mark Wood has spoken about his setback upon return to injury. The Three Lions speedster shared how he is set to undergo yet another treatment on his elbow which has ruled him out of returning to action.
The 32-year-old has not played top-level cricket since suffering from an injury in March 2022 during his matches against the West Indies this year. It stopped him from playing in the Indian Premier League with the English speedster opting to pull out of the Lucknow Super Giants squad.

He featured in a club cricket game on July 16, but the 32-year-old is said to have failed in his recovery after that game. The pacer came out about his struggles with injury in a recent interview with Sky Sports. Mark Wood joined in the conversation during The Three Lions’ ODI clash against South Africa.
The 32-year-old is quoted saying, “I’m struggling to be honest. I need another operation, unfortunately. I played that club cricket game for Ashington, which was basically a test. The ECB got me to play that game to see how it was.”
He added, “I’d been bowling well for two or three weeks in the nets, but when it came to the match, it wasn’t so much during the game but the day after. So, my elbow is really sore now and I’m struggling to fully straighten it again. So, there must be something going on. It’s weird because my ankle feels like a real injury, this doesn’t feel like a real injury to me, my elbow, it’s just been a nuisance.”
Mark Wood also goes on to speak on his ambitions of regaining his full fitness and returning to action before the highly anticipated T20 World Cup. The ICC event is all set to be played in Australia and scheduled to take place in mid-October. The 32-year-old has spoken how he wants to recover after having a second surgery and finishing the rehabilitation in a tight deadline and start training with the World Cup in sight.
“I’ve got to get it sorted right now if I want to be fit for the T20 World Cup, which is the goal. It’s just been so frustrating when I’ve done everything I could, listened to all the experts and done what they’ve said. To not get over that final hump is so frustrating,” Mark Wood said.
