7 Indian Players Who May Go Unsold In IPL 2023 Auction, Check Why?

7 Indian Players Who May Go Unsold In IPL 2023 Auction: The Indian Premier League can be considered the best league in the world. This league was started with a motto of “Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi,” which means where talent meets opportunity. The league has been providing many opportunities to those who are overlooked by their respective cricketing boards.

When we say IPL is the best league globally, we cannot deny that it is also one of the toughest leagues for players to step in. IPL has helped several cricketing boards seek new talents like Jos Buttler, David Miller, Suryakumar Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh. Every player across the globe dreams of participating in the contest. The league has been immensely rewarding for some players. On the other hand, the league had also damaged careers.

These names are surprising as they had given so much to their respective franchises. According to our sources, these players had failed to attract franchisees and are on the edge of being unsold in IPL-2023.

Ambati Rayudu

Chennai Super Kings releasing Ambati Rayudu is something I expected as the right-handed batter in the IPL 2022 didn’t perform up to the mark. It would be good if CSK picks him again in the IPL 2023 mini auctions, but looking at his age and recent form, he has a high chance of getting unsold in the mini auctions. The 37-year-old right-handed batter was one of the best middle-order batsmen, but if players like Suresh Raina (MR IPL) went unnoticed by the franchise, then I really don’t have a good feeling about Ambati Rayudu.

Vijay Shankar

BCCI invested much trust in Vijay Shankar and selected him for the 2019 ODI World Cup. The right-handed batter proved everyone wrong and ended his World Cup journey in disaster. Vijay Shankar is one of the most overrated players in the world. Shankar is not a bad player, but one cannot deny that the international circuit has ruined many careers. Shankar is among those who can perform well in domestic circuits, but when it comes to IPL, franchise owners can only invest a little trust in him.

Mandeep Singh

Mandeep Singh is indeed one of the best talents in the world, but looking at his IPL stats, there is a high probability that no franchise would show interest in him. In his 108 IPL matches, Singh scored 1692 runs with a strike rate of 124.32. In his ten years IPL career, the right-handed batter had smashed six half-centuries. Singh is a good cricketer. His list-A records are good, but he is someone who doesn’t fit in franchise cricket. His overall performance in IPL is not up to the mark, and looking at this, I don’t think the franchise would show much interest in Singh and he may go unsold in the mini auctions.

Dhawal Kulkarni

In his 92 IPL matches, Dhawal Kulkarni has picked 86 wickets. Kulkarni is a good bowler, but in a format like IPL, where every batter looks to smash every ball, someone like Kulkarni won’t affect. Dhawal has rarely played an entire IPL season, frequently coming in and out of the lineup. He hasn’t been particularly good at death, which was another flaw that cost Dhawal in the IPL. However, given his wealth of domestic experience, he can be an excellent signing in the squad, but franchises hire coaches for that, right?

Manish Pandey

Adding Manish Pandey to the list is something I just now thought of. Being a huge cricketing fan, I always felt BCCI never backed Manish Pandey, which resulted in a decline in his career. Pandey was the first Indian batsman to smash a century in the IPL. His 114 runs off 73 balls is something I can never forget. IPL is not everyone’s cup of tea. The right-handed batter is on the list because of his inconsistency. IPL 2018 was a career-destroying phase for Manish Pandey, as his performance was not up to the mark. After that, Sunrisers Hyderabad backed him in 2018 and signed Manish Pandey, but he still struggled, and in the end, SRH released him. Pandey will come under the hammer on 23rd December 2022, and it is expected that he may go unsold in the IPL 2023 auction.

Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat is a good bowler, but in a format like the IPL, where every batter tries to smash every ball, someone like Unadkat will have little impact. Unadkat fetched a jaw-dropping price at the 2018 player auctions, making him the most expensive buy of the season after RR pocketed him. It was an incredible turnaround, and Unadkat later admitted that the massive pressure of his price did affect his mental space during that season. He hasn’t been perfect in recent years, which was another flaw that cost Unadkat his IPL spot.

Ajinkya Rahane

Regarding the list of some legendary Indian players performing in IPL, Ajinkya Rahane is one. Rahane is one of the most successful batters in the history of IPL. He has been a part of IPL for an extended period. However, the fans witnessed a massive drop in his performance with growing age. Things have cooled down a little for the Mumbaikar in recent years. Throughout the 2017 season, he struggled, resulting in his lowest-ever tally as a senior cricketer since 2014. The story was similar in 2020, with Rahane struggling under the weight of captaincy. Rahane has only produced three fifties in the last two seasons, a staggering statistic that reflects his poor run of form. In IPL 2022, we may not see Rahane performing for any franchise.

Many other players have high chances of getting unsold in the new edition of IPL. This can be understood because none of the mentioned plays had performed well in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League.
