3 Changes India Could Make In Their Playing XI For The 3rd ODI

India have continued to assert their dominance in One Day Internationals (ODI) during their recent series win against England earlier this month. The Men in Blue have carried on the momentum to the Caribbean during their ongoing white ball games against the West Indies.

Despite fielding a second-string side, Shikhar Dhawan and co have managed to pocket the 3-match ODIs by being 2-0 ahead of the final clash. With the Men in Blue already winning the series, Rahul Dravid is expected to test the bench strength and give some players an opportunity to play in the third clash.  Let’s have a look at few changes that the visitors could make in their team composition for the last ODI game at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.

Potential changes in India’s playing XI for the 3rd ODI

The Indian team management boasts a plethora of options at the top in their current squad touring the West Indies. Shubman Gill was chosen to partner up with skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the first 2 games and the young opener has not disappointed. The 22-year-old had solid outings in both the matches scoring over 100 runs (64 and 43) in 2 ODIs while playing with some positive intent.

He has made a statement with such good performances that could guarantee the right-hander getting more chances in the future. With Gill’s form a good sign for India, the visitors might be eager to test other players at the top. It could see Ruturaj Gaikwad make his ODI debut with Dravid expected to choose him while hoping to maintain the right-hand left-hand combination at the top.

Another change the Indian team think tank could look for ahead of the final ODI is bringing in Ishan Kishan into the playing 11. The wicket keeper batter is a like-for-like replacement for Sanju Samson and could be given a start in the final ODI.

Samson has been in excellent touch for India in white ball cricket for India having scored a half-century in the previous game. The Rajasthan Royals skipper has propelled himself amongst the ranks to be a backup to Rishabh Pant in white ball cricket and could be rested while Kishan gets a chance.

Kishan has been a versatile player who has played at the top of the order but can also bat in the middle if required. The 24-year-old will be eager to get a chance and grab on to the opportunity especially with his competitors doing well in the ongoing series. He is expected to bat in the middle order depending upon the situation of the game if given a chance in the last ODI.

Arshdeep Singh could also make his ODI debut in the third ODI against West Indies. The left-arm seamer made a name for himself with his death-over skills in the IPL 2022 while also impressing during the three-match T20I series.

The likes of Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammad Siraj have been given changes to impress in One Day Internationals and it would not be a surprise if Singh is also given a shot, with the young speedster around the national team circuit with T20 World Cup 2022 set to be played soon.
