A student studying in the seventh class has won ₹1 Crore on the Dream11! Yes, you read it right, the young chap identified as Saksham Bajirao Kumbhar took a huge pay cheque after creating a winning team on the fantasy gaming app. Hailing from Murgud in the district of Kolhapur, Kumbhar won ₹1 Crore after his Dream11 team won the most points during the recently concluded third ODI between India and New Zealand. The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue played this talked-about match on 24th January 2023 in Indore.
The 3rd ODI saw the hosts record a massive win against the Kiwis, with Kumbhar collecting the most Dream11 points among other players who engaged against him in the contest on Tuesday. After the match, Kumbhar was announced as the winner, and ₹70 Lakh was deposited in his account after tax deduction. It led to a party-type atmosphere in his locality, with his family and friends taking out a procession in the village, overjoyed by the winnings and celebrating his victory.
Maharashtra Times has reported the schoolboy to be very good at academics. Kumbhar is also said to have scored brilliantly in a scholarship examination. His parents are said to have allowed him to participate in such online games because he has a very good knowledge of cricket.

However, questions have also been raised after a kid aged below 18 managed to pocket such huge prize money. Such questions come up after Dream11’s policy and self-regulatory code established by the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) requires all users of such online apps to be 18-years-old and above.
Dream11’s official terms and conditions state that, “Persons below the age of eighteen (18) years are not allowed to participate in any contests, games (by whatever name called) on the Dream11 Platform. The Users will have to disclose their real age at the time of getting access to the Dream11 platform.”
Similarly, the FIFS charter dictates that “Paid contest formats on a Fantasy Sports Platform (FSP) shall not be offered by a member to users who are less than eighteen years old.”
However, in this case, Kumbhar has done nothing wrong as the actual account through which he won is apparently registered under his father’s name. In this case, Kumbhar’s father will be the rightful owner of the prize, with the money being deposited in his account.
In order to avoid such incidents, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) wants KYC verification of gamers on all of the real money gaming platforms and ensure that kids are not playing such games where money is involved.
