Esports Premier League 2021: Here’s What We Know So Far


Ever since India Today Gaming announced it’s flagship esports tournament, ESPL 2021, the esports fans are eagerly waiting for the league. The three-month long league kick-started today, June 16th, 2021, and will end with a grand finale on August 29th, 2021.

The league is said to follow an Indian Premier League (IPL) like format, wherein eight teams namely, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Punjab, Rajasthan and Bangalore, will compete for the ultimate title. The league will have more than 700 online matches.

The ESPL also features a massive prize pool of ₹25,00,000, which will be distributed among the top eight teams as follows:

  • 1st position- ₹ 12,00,000
  • 2nd position- ₹ 6,00,000
  • 3rd position- ₹ 3,00,000
  • 4th position- ₹ 1,25,000
  • 5th position- ₹ 1,00,000
  • 6th position- ₹ 50,000
  • 7th position- ₹ 35,000
  • 8th position- ₹ 30,000

Apart from this, the Free Fire tournament will also feature special individual player awards like the Most Valuable Player and Fan Favorite Player.

The tournament will take place in four phases. In the first phase, an open qualifier will be conducted. During the open qualifiers around 88 teams are expected to progress into the next round. In phase two the 88 teams along with 8 invited teams will battle it out to proceed to the next phase. The top eight best performing teams from Phase 3 will proceed to the grand finale.

The organizers of the tournament have signed Infinix Mobile as their title sponsor and Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff as the brand ambassador to be the face of the tournament. 

Free Fire players who wish to participate need to form a team of four players and one extra player as a back-up. Players can register via India Today Gaming platform. India Today Gaming has revealed that through the flagship tournament, it wants to pave the way for upcoming gamers to start their journey.
