Emerald Poker Tour returns for the 3rd time in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is fast becoming a major hotspot for poker in the South-east Asian region. The country, in recent times, has been host to some significant tournaments and events and this trend doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon. Recently, two major Indian poker companies, PokerRaj (PokerRaj International Series) and PokerHigh (Poker Concierge), have each announced events in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo, both scheduled next month.

Along with this, one of the highlights of poker in the country, Emerald Poker Tour (EPT) is back for the third time with its exciting cash table events. EPT will be hosted between 21-24 March 2019 at The Bellagio, Colombo.

The event, first founded by the poker couple and industry old-timers Gokul Krishna (third from left) and Sunitha ‘Suni’ Sunder, later saw PokerGuru Staking member (formerly AceJack StableVikram ‘Lungi’ Kumar (second from left) joining the team and since then the three have hosted first two editions quite successfully, in November and December last year.

This time, the EPT Team is joined by Navkiran Singh, CEO of PokerBaazi. Singh will be in the capacity of a partner for 3rd edition of EPT. Singh is an industry veteran and his company just hosted the Game Changer, the biggest online tournament in India till date, which went into the books in the early hours of Monday morning.

Singh was quoted as saying, “EPT is a brand with great vision backed by a brilliant team of poker enthusiasts. Even though I have organized similar events in the past, the fact that the EPT is handled in such an organized and professional manner motivated me to come on board, and together we hope to create a great platform for Indian players to come and experience live poker.

EPT was hugely successful in its past iterations, drawing high and low-stakes cash game enthusiasts alike from nearby regions. Also, since Sri Lankan currency goes easy on Indian spenders, it is an attractive option to consider for many of them.

The EPT Team has been also considering hosting Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) offerings instead of cash game fests in the future and Singh will prove to be a driving force in this direction, hence his addition to the team. Lastly, Krishna commented on this prospect saying, “Yes, high-stakes MTTs is definitely in the pipeline. We are planning to host it around the WSOP time with satellites on Pokerbaazi. We are looking at various international locations at the moment. Will choose something which is easy for players to travel to.”
