Eleven arrested in gambling den raid in Srinagar


In recent days we have come across a bunch of gambling den reports and it was only yesterday that a team of Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a total of eleven individuals playing cards in the summer capital of J&K area, Tang Bagh Nehru Park, near Dal Lake in District Srinagar.

The police party of Police Post Nehru Park managed to confiscate money, mobile phones, gold chains, and cards from the venue. The Srinagar police acting tough against the social crimes recovered over INR 55,210 from the people involved in the entire scenario.

On Wednesday a police spokesperson said that eleven persons detained from the site have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. Case FIR No 13/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Ram Munshi Bagh police station and further investigations into the matter have been initiated.

A police statement read that persons found indulging in the criminal activities shall be dealt as per the law. Further requesting the community members to share information regarding the crimes in their neighborhood with the nearby police units.

A couple of days ago, a team from Satwari police station conducted a raid and busted a gambling den detaining 9 persons with INR 5,000 along with their cards. All the arrested individuals were booked under Section 4 Public Gambling Act. Another case from January 2019 that caught public attention was the police in Bandipora raiding a house and arresting 12 persons in the Poshwari area of Naidkhai in Sumbaland seizing INR 1.52 Lakhs along with 4 cheques worth INR 2.50 Lakhs. The raid was conducted under the close supervision of SSP Bandipora and FIR under the relevant sections were lodged.

On 13 November 2019, reported yet another update that Srinagar police detained three individuals along with INR 31,950. The entire case was filed under FIR 60/2019 in the Rainawari police station.
