DPT April 2022: Dhirendra Kumar Leads The 65K Highroller Day 1


Yesterday, Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) April 2022 hosted its Day 1 flight for the 65K Highroller event which had a buy-in worth ₹65,000. This tournament is the biggest buy-in event in the DPT April 2022 event and commenced at 2 PM on 15th April. By the end of Day 1, it was Dhirendra Kumar who became the chip leader of the 123 survivors who will grind in Day 2 of the Highroller event.

Kumar, who is also known by his online moniker ‘Dhiru91’ bagged 200,000 chips as he progressed onto Day 2. The event had a total of 219 entries of which 123 survived. Right behind Kumar is Ankur Sehgal with 192,800 chips, and third chip lead is with Mohammad Azhar (183,900).

Tournament Highlights

Killing two birds with one stone

At level 10, Ujjwal Deepak went all-in with 2,400 chips from the button (9d 3d). Dhirendra raised 8,000 from the small blind position and the player from the cut-off went all-in as well with 13,400 chips (8x 9x). Kumar called with cards Ah 10h and the board opened Ks Ad As 4s 9h giving Kumar trips with his aces which resulted in two of his rivals getting knocked out.

Battle of the Straights

At level 8, the action was led by Akhilendra Singh who raised to 2,000 from big blind. A player from UTG +1 and Zarvan Tumboli (small blind) both make the call. The flop opened 3c 4c Ah. All three players check the flop and the turn opens with 7s. Tumboli checks while Singh bets 5,000, UTG + 1 makes the call and Zarvan raises the bet to 17K. 

Singh goes all-in for 55K with 5x 6x. UTG + 1 folds while Tumboli makes the call with 2x 5x. The river opens with Jx giving both players a straight. However, it was Singh who had the higher straight which led to Tumboli’s exit.

  1. Dhirendra Kumar – 200,000
  2. Ankur Sehgal – 192,800
  3. Mohammad Azhar – 183,900

Many notable players are still in contention. Players like Siddhanth Kripalani, Vivek Singh, Ashish Ahuja, Millionaire Main Event winner ‘Pradzzz,’ Arsh Grover, Arjanveer Singh Chadha, Arun Sriram, Chirag Sodha, Goonjan Mall, Harsh Dembla, Kunal Patni, Kanchan Sharma, IOPC January 2021 winner Laksh Pal Singh among others.
