The official governing organization of football in Delhi, has announced a partnership with esports company, Irony Inc. The esports company specializes in developing esports programs that are community-first.
The partnership between the Delhi Soccer Association and Irony Inc. aims at creating a community named ‘Gamers of Delhi.’ The community will provide a robust platform for gaming and football enthusiasts in the capital city.
The popularity of online gaming has grown tremendously among the millennials and Gen Z over the world. Their consumption of esports content has witnessed a rise during the recent years. This changing trend has led to major sports associations, global football leagues and teams all over the world launching their own esports based content. Many traditional sports organizations have joined hands with esports organizations to adapt and engage with the young population through esports.
Football Delhi’s partnership with esports firm Irony Inc. is the first of its kind in India. It is the first time a sports organization has teamed up with an esports organization to venture into esports.
Shaji Prabhakaran, President of Football Delhi, says “It is important to integrate esports into our association activities for the larger good of the game and with pandemic esports have grown significantly in India, more and more football enthusiasts are actively seeking opportunities to game and find social connection via esports. That becomes a great avenue for football stakeholders such as us to engage with the youth and bring them into our community. Keeping up with Football Delhi’s mission to enable access to all, we will introduce a dedicated Football Delhi gamers platform in partnership with Irony. This includes a series of tournaments to grow and engage with our fan community.’’
Irony co-founders, Ankit Bhatia and Tushaar Garg, add, “Football Delhi plays an important role in promoting Delhi’s football culture and community, and we are proud to help them create a comprehensive gaming and esports program that will endeavor to bring new audiences to the beautiful game in the state of Delhi.”
