The Spartan Super Series (SSS) is known for hosting some of India’s biggest online poker tournaments. Just a couple of days back, ‘subway31’ won the SSS Super HighRoller which had a huge buy-in of INR 55,000. Last night was another massive buy-in of INR 27,500, as players battled it out in the SSS Elite HighRoller.
Yesterday was Day 5 of the series and SSS Event #25 The Elite HighRoller INR 50 Lakh GTD kicked off at 7:30pm, in the most favoured 6-Max format. A total field of 184 entries registered to this high-value tournament, with the top 21 finishers eventually sharing the spoils with a minimum cash prize of INR 62,500 each.
After a few very quick eliminations after reaching the pay-out stage, the tournament slowed down a little and eventually ended at 5:40am this morning, with ‘ConfidentFish’ outlasting these entries to win this tournament and pocket the massive top prize of INR 12,00,000.
To beat some of India’s best pros and win such a major tournament, you can’t be a fish, so the player fooled everyone with his username. Proceedings came to an end in Level #56 with the blinds at 27,500/55,000 – 5,500, where ConfidentFish beat none other than Jayjit Ray aka ‘David Blaine’ in heads-up.
Ray has been enjoying a great run in poker, both online and live. He recently won the Baadshah Live 75k HighRoller in Goa, followed by shipping The Summit on PokerBaazi a couple of nights back. Remember, he has also won an SSS title in the past, winning Event #23 in the August edition.
Here, Ray took away INR 8,12,500 for finishing second in the Elite HighRoller, making another big addition to his poker bankroll. In the final hand, Ray had a chip deficit of around 1:4 and he shoved all-in pre-flop with pocket Threes. ConfidentFish called with Tc Qc and the board rolled out 6c As Jh 4c 8c, with ConfidentFish winning after hitting a Queen-high flush on the river.
