Chiu wins APT Head Hunter; Munsaf and Mudgal in top 10


This year began with an exciting series hosted by Asian Poker Tour (APT), the APT Vietnam Kickoff, which is underway at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City. The series started on 9th January and three events have already declared their champions till now. UK’s Alex Lindop won the Super High Rollers and Michael Kim Falcon the Monster Stack 1.

The third event which is in the books now is the Event #3 Dafabet Head Hunter. The was third in the line and attracted a total of 113 entries on the floor. The first day of the event saw a total of 14 players progressed to Day 2. This tournament was sponsored by the Filipino online gambling giant Dafabet and was hugely successful.

The winner to bag the Dafabet Head Hunter title today was Hong Kong’s Ray Chiu who beat Singaporean pro Norbert Koh in heads-up to ship the tournament. Chiu won VND 163,625,000 (~INR 4.93 Lakhs) for his 1st place finish. Chiu is a known player in his home country’s circuit and has played a few live events and has cashes as well. This win will add a significant amount to his bankroll which is always a good thing for budding players like him.

Two well-known Indian players Meherzad Munsaf and Dhaval Mudgal also finished in the money in the Dafabet Head Hunter. Munsaf finished 9th for VND 17,065,000 (~INR 51K) and Mudgal busted before him at 10th with VND 14,221,000 (~INR 50K) as his cash prize.

Both are well-accomplished live players in the Indian circuit. Munsaf has played plenty of live poker in the poker capital of India, Goa. He came 2nd in DPT Colossus SHR event back in April last year for a wholesome amount of INR 19.16 Lakhs. In this series itself, he has earned cashes in the Monster Stack 1, for finishing 29th. He is also playing in the Main Event and is sitting at an above average 12th place overall.

Mudgal also needs no introduction, playing in the circuit for a long time now. Vietnam has seen Mudgal winning a major event in the past. He shipped the APT Vietnam Main Event in October last year, beating a field of 679 entries for the top prize of INR 76.63 Lakhs. He has acquired the veteran status in the circuit, playing since 2011. He has previous cashes from all over the world, from Macau and Manila in the east to Las Vegas in the west.
