China Poker Games Championship resumes; ME to take place in August

The journey of the harmful virus initiated from China and today the country stands with 83K positive cases and 78K already recovered. By now, all of us know that casinos are one of the hardest hit by the pandemic but some regions of the world are reporting faster recovery cases, helping the economy to get back on track.

Last month the China Poker Games (CPG) Championship resumed hosting a CPG Satellite in Fuzhou. This weekend, another event was held in Shanghai. Turns out, both events pulled out a pretty good field, easily observing 1,000+ entries at each stop. Players who cashed the event received a package to CPG Championship Main Event which is scheduled to take place in Sanya from 21 to 28 August.

Nothing less than monumental, the 2019 CPG Main Event pulled in 3,132 entries producing a head turning prize pool of $4.1 million at the Howard Johnson Resort Sanya Bay. Although the field was packed with 99% Chinese nationals, we’ve seen a growth in foreign attendance too. Some of these international players to compete in 2019 event included Ashish Gupta, Alex Wei Xiang Lee, Mark Gruendemann, and Si Yang Phua.

In order to organize the gaming floor for thousands of poker enthusiasts at a time of severe health crisis, the government put down several strict regulations. For CPG, abiding and adapting to the regulations was one of the reasons for the brand’s continued success despite numerous challenges due to the pandemic in Beijing. About 4,000+ patrons tested negative and the tournament was allowed to resume.
